She is regarded by hundreds of thousands of people in more than 130 countries as the "World's Greatest Living Spiritual Teacher".
Shri Mataji’s humanitarian and spiritual work draws admiration not only from countless individuals - worldwide, who have personally benefited from her teachings, but also from governments, dignitaries, education institutions and humanitarian organizations.

On May 5, 1970 Shri Mataji opened the Sahastrara (Crown) chakra for mankind, thereby
allowing anyone with the desire to have their realisation by awakening their dormant spiritual energy known as Kundalini.
Shri Mataji then began to spread en-mass Self-Realisation using the Sahaja Yoga techniques she developed.  Shri Mataji accepts no money for her time, knowledge or for the giving of Self-Realisation.  She has worked and travelled tirelessly for over 40 years to bring Sahaja Yoga to the seekers of the world.

The method of meditation through self-realisation developed by Shri Mataji was called  Sahaja
Yoga.  Shri Mataji toured throughout Europe, Australia, and North America continuously in the 1980’s, teaching this method free of charge to all who were interested.  The 1990’s saw her travels spreading to South America, Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia and Pacific region.

Despite relentless travelling, Shri Mataji never referred to her demanding schedule as tiresome, equating it rather with the work of a loving mother looking after her children’s well being.

Shri Mataji was born in India to a Christian family on March 21, 1923 - a descendant of an Indian royal family.  Her father, a lawyer, was a member of India's first parliament. He was scholar fluent in 14 languages.  He also translated the Qur’an into Hindi. Her mother was the first woman in India to receive an honours degree in mathematics.  Shri Mataji also had a good and close relationship with Mahatma Gandhi.

Shri Mataji was a mother and grandmother, as well as the spiritual mother to Sahaja Yogis from all over the world.  She was the wife of Sir C.P Srivastava, a very distinguished diplomat who served as Secretary General of the United Nations International Maritime Organisation.

"You cannot know the meaning of your life until you are connected to the power that has created you"
"There can be no peace in this world until there is peace within"

"The quality of human beings is only one and that is how much they
love and forgive"
"Love is the main thing.  When there is love there is energy, there is patience and there is wisdom.  love has to be there first"

What is Self Realisation?

"Self Realisation is actually the first encounter with Reality"

True 'Self Realisation' can only, really be attained through the 'Awakening of the Divine Mothering Energy', that lies dormant in the base of the spine, secretly hidden in the sacrum bone.

Self Realisation has always been the ultimate goal of all religions and spiritual traditions of the world, but was extremely difficult to attain in the past.
It has now become a mass phenomenon achieved effortlessly through Sahaja Yoga, which is Shri Mataji's invaluable gift to humanity.

Shri Mataji discovered a spontaneous method to awaken the Kundalini and this is the foundation of Sahaja Yoga Meditation.

In the past, the awakening of this inner spiritual energy was achieved by only a few individuals, through arduous efforts of purification, asceticism, and prolonged meditation.

Shri Mataji's discovery of awakening the Kundalini requires no previous knowledge or spiritual practice.  The spontaneous awakening can be passed on to others, without the necessity of paying money, acquiring a diploma or becoming a disciple.
"Like a candle that is lit can light another candle.”

Self Realisation through Sahaja Yoga - has been introduced in corporations (through the Center for Evolutionary Learning), schools (through the Health Corps and other programs), hospitals and prisons, with positive, documented results. (SELF-REALISATION' is the name given to this AWAKENING).

How Does This Happen?
Within every human being there is a Motherly and Soothing Spiritual Energy lying dormant at the base of the spine in the triangular sacrum bone, in three and a half coils - (The Greeks were aware that the bone they called hieron osteon (sacred bone or sacrum) carried within it a 'sacred' energy which lead to the Pneuma or Spirit).

Once this extraordinary benevolent, nurturing energy is awakened, it passes upwards through the nerve plexuses, along the spine inside the spinal cord, and passes through all the chakras or energy centers in our subtle system before coming out of the head at the fontanel bone area, opening the "Sahasrara" the last center (on top of our heads).
This is how one achieves 'Yoga or Union' with the source of all.
One can feel this energy as a 'cool breeze' above the head, as well as in the palms of the hands.
This Mothering Energy that lies within every human being has been called by many names in the different traditions. The Hindus called this energy Kundalini Shakti, the Greeks referred to this energy as "Pneuma". Islam speaks of "Ruh", and Jesus Christ called it "The Holy Spirit".  In Jewish mysticism it was called as "Shekina" and long time before that, the Sumerians worshipped the Mother Goddess Inanna, which gives spiritual birth and the sacred breath. Several thousands of years ago, "Chaitanya" in India.  "The Self", translated as "Divine Vibrations " in Sahaja Yoga.

Why is it necessary to Awaken or connect with this Mothering Energy that lies within?
Well, this energy, (sustained through the practice of Sahaja Yoga meditation), has a curative and balancing effect on our system.  It also facilitates a restorative state known as 'Thoughtless Awareness', in which the mind is in a state of rest or sleep or tranquility and yet perfectly aware.

What makes Sahaja Yoga meditation different from other techniques is that this state of 'Thoughtless awareness happens spontaneously and without effort'.Because of its simplicity and accessibility, hundreds of thousands of people have received their self-realisation through Sahaja Yoga, with meditation centers in over 130 countries offering permanently free courses and community support to practitioners of this simple, yet vital meditation.

The experience of self-realisation through Sahaja Yoga offers significant benefits
to those who dedicate even a small amount of time to daily meditation.
  • It reduces stress and fatigue,
  • restores emotional balance,and
  • gives one a sense of peace and satisfaction even in the turbulent of circumstances.
  • and more...
